Remember several months ago when the White House Press Secretary (Spicer) was asked if he tells the truth at press briefings? It was a strange moment for journalists with formal training. The question leans toward the ?Do you still beat your wife?? category.
Fake news is one of the terms popping up in my high school journalism classes, but what does it mean? Trump says it is news made up by journalists to sell newspapers; journalists say it is a term designed to weaken journalism and the First Amendment. Neither is true.
Many years ago I covered the state government beat as a journalist and became involved in an adversarial relationship with a government official. I decided to use every piece of negative information about the guy to make him look bad. It is one of the few things I regret from my days as a reporter.
My college journalism teacher emphasized sticking to the facts and leaving opinion out of news stories. Journalists should report facts from different views without colorful adjectives. Trump could tone down some of his Tweets, but he has shown he is not the conventional politician willing to look the other way when attacked by reporters.
Some college and high school journalism classes are not explaining objectivity in news reporting. Journalism today reminds me of my playground days in elementary school when kids waged war over everything.

We have a different dynamic now. People are more dedicated to their political beliefs than they are to working. On both sides. It's a "I'm better than you" mentality and facts don't seem to thwart the misguided dedication to seeing their side win.
The media is divided into camps now as well. Again, their political beliefs are their God. So, they fight. And the fight becomes the war and the war isn't even any longer about politics, it's about winning at any cost.
Trump lacks wisdom, and it's scary. He's impulsive and unrepentant about it. The man seriously needs a dose of humility. I respect the office of The Presidency and I want good things for this country but we don't seem to do things that would help, like getting money and contributions/special interest connections OUT of any influence a representative might use or be pressured to use. Instead of tweeting about every little thing, real reform in our system seems more important than a wall that is, at best, a shot in the dark.
We could do a few things to stop partisan politics from turning into the monster it is, but we don't. Instead both sides fight, criticize, and think they're superior. It's hysterical.
It's scaring the hell out of me- no one is interested in the truth- not either side- where does that take us? God only knows- the only thing I'm seeing is a lot of one sided political memes from people who don't have a clue about anything, so they use someone else's nonsense in lieu of a real opinion.
In theory. I hope. But have you noticed what happens to 3rd party candidates? Mostly no one votes for them over an incumbent. People are stuck emotionally like they're being held hostage. LOL
Remember what Hillary did to Bernie Sanders?? How about anyone running against either political machine? People say they want change but actually most DONT. They loooove their "Party'
This system is broken. Special interest money and the power of it controls the things people get in major ways, Like healthcare. When we had a chance to get Canadian drugs here for a FRACTION of the cost that would have been life changing for millions, our illustrious representatives deeply entrenched in big pharma said NOPE.
That bothers me more than Trumps morning high school level tweets.
This system is broken. Special interest money and the power of it controls the things people get in major ways, Like healthcare.
Ive said over and over. When, "We the People" do not engage our elected officials and lobbyists do. We get the government we deserve. Key word here is "Engage" to mean, write, call, visit. No one does that nor does anyone on KU encourage others to do the same.
Emails take about 15 mins. Our congressman Ted Poe isnt running in 2018 along with 18 other republican congress. They are "Lame duck" reps. Anyone running for district 2, our district, should be ready for a lot of questions.
No the voters said nope by electing them over and over again."
You can't really say that. These things come up after elections, no one gets to have a crystal ball and see the unforeseen things that will come up. The problem is, they DONT listen or care what constituents think when their pockets are being lined and they're already in office. After being disappointed, then we can reject them but whilst in office, they do what they want.
And yet they keep getting elected. The public has the memory of a fly. These politicians will NEVER vote for term limits. Never ever. But if they keep getting ousted after one term it will send a clear message, but the majority of people are too cowardly and apathetic.
"When was the last time (you) encourage anyone on KU to "Engage"?
What's that suppose to mean? That bc you decide to stay on here all day posting extremely partisan memes just espousing your one sided views, that that's now a highly necessary community service that you're holding everyone else to?
That's NOT even information. It's just you telling everyone if they don't think like you, they're idiots. And you say it day after day with tasteless memes like the President sitting on the toilet with his pants down and legs spread. Some are utterly false. I know you think it's cool. But it's useless IMO.
Before I worry about "engaging everyone", I WORK,pay the bills and am a participating effectual member of society. Once all that gets done I guess I can offer advice to everyone else.
And you say it day after day with tasteless memes like the P
bla bla bla It was a simple question. I dont worry that anyone engages. They dont. Lobbyist do. Instead they get on KU or Facebook and whine about politics. Its great that a conversation exists, but a constructive conversation on KU is near impossible with RWNJ using petty powers to Ice contrary conversations under the guise of "Inappropriate" while turning a blind eye to others that attack. Dont get me started.
Often I have stated to "Engage" still do. So the question to you is "when was the last time you encouraged anyone on KU to engage? simple. Save your soap-box bla bla bla for someone else.
Im at Green Oaks tonight. lol...come on out, leave your politics here. mmm k
endless fictitious memes I see you've directed at me a question.. Is it safe to assume you PR take my meme about Norwegians to be, "fictitious"?
Or is it safe to say you have nothing constructive to say? Im sure its the latter. btw..did you hear Bannon has been issued a subpoena? ha. I bring that up to remind you and other Trump supporters that you've been suckered
