Right now the focus is school safety, not general education standards.

Obviously, we need to make schools harder targets and arm teachers.

jackass --- 193 days ago -

Yeah, what could go wrong???

Joe Blow --- 193 days ago -

Obviously, we need to make schools harder targets and arm teachers.?

OBVIOUSLY WE DO NOT NEED TO ARM TEACHERS. What idiocy to think educators should be women/men of war.

Gun-trained teacher ?accidentally? discharges firearm in Calif. classroom, officials say, injuring student

Video shows Florida sheriff?s deputy stood outside building as Parkland school shooting took place

The 27-minute surveillance video shows the armed school resource officer standing outside a school building for at least four minutes while the Feb. 14 massacre unfolded inside. The video raises further questions about the actions of the officer, Scot Peterson, the only Broward County sheriff?s deputy assigned to protect Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Peterson is seen hurrying to the building as the massacre was unfolding and then ? while police said the shooting continued ? standing outside without seeming to take cover or to secure the area.

So armed deputies are useless. Trained professionals. Therefore the solution is to arm educators? What moron came up with that solution?

Prolix Raconteur --- 192 days ago -

Peterson is a coward, but you can bet if confronted he would have fired back. As it was, he ran from the building once the firing started without ever seeing the attacker.

Joe Blow --- 191 days ago -

Yea he is a coward, that is obvious. But still you expect a teacher to not be one when a LEO is.

LMFAO at the illogic

Prolix Raconteur --- 191 days ago -

You totally missed the point, as usual. Being armed, trained, ready and reacting to an armed intruder is not even remotely the same thing as charging into an unknown situation during an active shooter scenario.

Joe Blow --- 191 days ago -

No, it's you who missed the point. One is trained to be a LEO by profession and the other to be a teacher.

0undefined

Prolix Raconteur --- 191 days ago -

So you're saying teachers, or anyone else for that matter except LEO's, are incapable of mastering the proficient use of a firearm? Because that's what it sounds like.

Let Logic Prevail --- 191 days ago -

Most teachers enter the profession to educate, not to defend the lives of their students. They don't get paid enough especially in Texas. It's not fair to even consider they should do that in my opinion.

Joe Blow --- 181 days ago -

"School district that armed teachers with rocks increasing security after media attention"

Now they're arming them with slingshots also to ramp it up a bit.

Arming the teachers WILL GO WILDLY WRONG
Agreed, why isn't deputies posted at all ISD's to protect and serve the popular idea?
County, State and city.
Teachers already deserve hazard pay for their work place being so dangerous.

Miss Understanding --- 179 days ago -

In Maryland the good guy with the gun (copper) did NOT KILL the bad guy int he school witht he gun after all!! He self inflicted his killing. My best friends are teachers and they are not arms experts nor do they belong holding weaponry. THEY ARE TEACHERS dammit.

jackass --- 179 days ago -

The NRA nuts think teachers should be taking bullets for students like they?re in the secret service protecting the president...

txwareagle --- 179 days ago -

He killed himself when confronted by the officer.

"Suspect Austin Rollins, a student at Great Mills High School, shot himself in the head at the same instant the school?s sole resource officer, Deputy Blaine Gaskill, fired one nonfatal shot that struck Rollins? hand, according to the St. Mary?s County Sheriff?s Office."

Arming the teachers WILL GO WILDLY WRONG

For example:
Armed officers arrive at the school, and a plain cloths teacher is walking around with a gun...

What could go wrong?
We need a uniformed officer, and ISD's have a police force. At least Houston does. Our teachers are already in a dangerous enough environment.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 179 days ago -

It's really not up to any of you. Teachers are CITIZENS who are now faced with a situation of school shootings in their work place. If they want to carry, let them. If they don't, cool. But they should have the choice. And we have to respect that. The whole idea seems foreign and awful but the ones who do have to be trained and equipped like anyone else.

the Markster --- 179 days ago -

It's really not up to any of you.

Or you.
Ask yourself a simple question...
"Would you want to be carrying a gun when law enforcement shows up at the scene with an active shooter walking around?

Want to respect teachers? Give them a safe place to work.

the Markster --- 179 days ago -

Has anyone walked into a bank to see a teacher as security? Me either.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 179 days ago -

That's because teachers don't work at banks, they work at schools.

Yes I want to respect teachers and that's why I would let THEM choose, not you.

Prolix Raconteur --- 179 days ago -

If I was a teacher you can bet I'd be carrying concealed, regardless of the school's policy. When my wife and I took the CHL class more than half the class was comprised of teachers. You can bet there's plenty who are already carrying daily into class.

the Markster --- 179 days ago -

That's because teachers don't work at banks,

Yes thats right...But how do banks manage to keep security?
Clue:
They dont use teachers. So why does it make sense to use a teacher for security at a school?
Clue:
It doesnt.

the Markster --- 179 days ago -

I still dont understand why Law enforcement isnt the popular idea...

I see zero respect for teachers here.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 179 days ago -

Law enforcement IS the popular idea- there are already guards at some schools. But teachers should have a choice. The only thing that worries me is a safety issue. Where would they keep them? Could they be overwhelmed by a student and have their gun taken away?

Prolix Raconteur --- 179 days ago -

I see zero respect for teachers here.

Where the hell did that come from?!?

But teachers should have a choice.

BINGO

Miss Understanding --- 178 days ago -

The NRA nuts think teachers should be taking bullets for students like they?re in the secret service protecting the president...?

I know it! How stupid is that!!

Miss Understanding --- 178 days ago -

the school?s sole resource officer, Deputy Blaine Gaskill, fired one nonfatal shot that struck Rollins? hand,

LOL!!!! THis is just hysterical! WE are wanting teachers to be armed yet here we ahve a trained professional who can't even shoot right. Geezy Louizie.

Miss Understanding --- 178 days ago -

But they should have the choice. And we have to respect that.

NO WE DO NOT HAVE TO RESPECT THAT. I DO NOT WANT MY KIDDOS EXPOSED TO TEACHERS WITH GUNS. I DON T WANT OTHER STUDENTS TO MAYBE GET ON THAT GUN.

STOP TELLING us WHAT WE HAVE TO DO.

the Markster --- 178 days ago -

overwhelmed by a student and have their gun taken away?

Exactly why a trained, uniformed, professional should be tasked with gun safety from shooters.

I cant imagine the stress of having to teach a class and if the need arises shooting and killing a person then having to go home and grade papers. Really? Armed teachers is an insane idea on many levels.

Miss Understanding --- 178 days ago -

Exactly why a trained, uniformed, professional should be tasked with gun safety from shooters.

Just like the florida DEPUTY who ran the other way and he was a DEPUTY not some one with the school district and not a teacher. IT WAS HIS JOB ad he ran. you know why? A pistol is no match against an AR-15. You go and ask coppers how they feel about citizens have higher weaponry than they themselves carry! NOONE WANTS TO GO UP AGAINST THAT

the Markster --- 178 days ago -

Just like the florida DEPUTY who ran the other way and he was a DEPUTY

That deputy was a bad example. Thought the shots were coming from wherever. I think if any teacher was faced with a real situation may act in a similar way. One bad deputy shouldn't be the example to draw from.

the Markster --- 178 days ago -

But they should have the choice. And we have to respect that.

NO WE DO NOT HAVE TO RESPECT THAT.

Agreed

Prolix Raconteur --- 178 days ago -

Alas, many teachers are already carrying and you don't know who they are and cannot do anything about it.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 178 days ago -

"STOP TELLING us WHAT WE HAVE TO DO"

It's called basic citizen rights. Lol. You don't get to decide.

the Markster --- 178 days ago -

It's called basic citizen rights. Lol. You don't get to decide.

LOL when it comes to schools and teachers, lol Yes we do have a say. Its called the PTA and its called engaging your mayor, governor and its called voting. lol. Basic civics. lol

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 178 days ago -

Mark, all you care about is arguing. There ALREADY teachers carrying weapons. No one is advocating arming all teachers or forcing schools to make teachers carry guns. Smh

the Markster --- 178 days ago -

No one is advocating arming all teachers

So people do have a say.

A min ago you said the following: It's called basic citizen rights. Lol. You don't get to decide.

lol. There are few armed teachers. Its not the norm. Nor should it be. Fetch me a beer lol
