1. There's a special place in hell for whoever decided those tiny children sized grocery carts were a good idea.

2. Why did they decide to have the employee smoking bench at the front of the store? Why not in the back? If you park anywhere near the pharmacy you can't avoid it .

Are we great again yet --- 8 years ago -

Why so ? On the small carts?
I'm not happy with the fact that we have a big empty space in our so called town center. I feel it shows that HEB does not and never did have any community concern about Kingwood other than a money grab.
From the first word of the move I questioned the managers about the space being left behind and it turns out 5hey were feeding me bulltzhit all along. I know it's not their responsibility but why should I shop at a place that wants my money but doesn't give a ratz azz about my property values. I'd rather pay more somewhere else.

Gigix4 --- 8 years ago -

So far, I've been real happy with the shopping at the new HEB. Maybe it's the time of day I go, but so far, have not had any problems and find that they have everything I could ever want. I am usually able to get in and out without having to deal with the child sized carts or any employees blowing smoke.

Yeah ... I don't like seeing their old building sitting empty but I'm really happy about the new store. So far, I doubt the new store has affected my property value at all.

andreweggplant --- 8 years ago -

I dislike the new store. Found that I spent more for the same items than I do elsewhere... not worth the extra drive

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 8 years ago -

I love it! I love the quality of the food, and the parking lot- I guess there's always going to be people who don't like stores, restaurants, etc-

napoleon --- 8 years ago -

I wished they still had Cafe on the Run. I hate seeing the old HEB empty also. I hope the empty anchor space isn't hurting the other stores in that center.

Saturn --- 8 years ago -

I've been there a couple of times and I guess it's a matter of preference.

I thought the variety of choices (groceries or otherwise) was very good and reasonably priced compared to the competition.

I probably won't run down there when I only need a few items, since Kroger is closer, however; for my heavy shopping I'll definitely give them my business.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 8 years ago -

the other stores are established in that center. I'm sure they'll do just fine-

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

I think it's a nice store but, it's so big, it's overwhelming. When you want a few items, it just takes longer in there to get in and out. I like the produce and meat quality, and the bakery, but I still go to Kroger much more.

TinktheSprite --- 8 years ago -

Haven't been yet, and in no hurry to do so. It's the same food for sale in a brand new building. shrug

ATXmom --- 8 years ago -

That building has been empty before. It doesn't look good but don't think it will hurt the other businesses.

TinktheSprite --- 8 years ago -

The old HEB building has been a Holiday Foods grocery store, Albertson's, then HEB. Who's next??

Jpgirl --- 8 years ago -

The new HEB works just fine with me- I love it. HEB was the first retailer in the old spot- and won't be the last.

freebyrdll --- 8 years ago -

The tenants from the old HEB shopping center are suffering terribly. Some of us will be OK, others? not so much

Texvette --- 8 years ago -

I really miss On The Run. I find I am going rot Randall's more now than before to fill the void

Emperor of Kingwood --- 8 years ago -

The HEB ready meals aren't that great and they are over priced.

Dorothy Parker --- 8 years ago -

Someone needs to come in and repurpose that space. Make it a rec center for kids or put a Jumpalooza in there or a dance studio or gymnastics center. We have enough retail stores, let's get some sort of entertainment for families.

Joe Blow --- 8 years ago -

That sucks.

I'm glad the wife does the majority of the grocery shopping. I went to the new HEB once and it will be the first and the last time. Parking is worse than the old one which was terrible.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

Freebyrd, how it is effecting places with a an already established following? You guys in that center aren't newbies. I get that Traffic helps all the businesses but you are all existing and have a following.

That would be really unexpected? Idk, it sure surprises me. I hope if it is happening, it's just temporary!

TinktheSprite --- 8 years ago -

I was in Famous Footwear and surprised it was so quiet in there this close to Christmas. Only 3 other shoppers. But the parking lot seemed to have a decent amount of cars. GOod luck to you all. An anchor store does promote everyone's business. Just out of curiosity, what would you business owners like to occupy the vacant building?

trailwoodmom --- 8 years ago -

I'm with you on those kiddie carts! If you hit a time when there are lots of parents with small children, it can be crazy.

The first couple of times I went I was so disappointed in the produce. I loved HEB produce. Bananas were all way to ripe yet at the old, small store there was a range in which to purchase. The last couple of times selections seems to have improved. For Thanksgiving I bought a lot of fresh berries and fruit for a salad that I ended tossing. The strawberries and raspberries were to mealy to use and the tangerine (I think; it may have been a small orange) was so tart it tasted like a lemon. I should have suspected it as much after peeling it. That seems to have improved, too but those were my first impressions. Wine is more expensive, too.

freebyrdll --- 8 years ago -

The change in traffic pattern is the only reason that those of us with established followings can explain the unforeseen change in business levels. It will be the death of some.

Defcon1 --- 8 years ago -

The HEB ready meals aren't that great and they are over priced.?

They DID have a Lobster/macaroni one that was absolutely incredible! It was 10 bucks though. Yikes.

Defcon1 --- 8 years ago -

I dig the curbside pickup at HEB. I don't care what anyone says, that's the way to do it.

FANCY PANTS --- 8 years ago -

I love seeing the little kids pushing carts around. It reminds me of when I had little kids and they got to do the same thing. Seems like a great way to keep the little ones busy and happy.

I have not noticed the smoking bench.

I love the new HEB! It is a great store. It's not as big as the HEBs back home but it's so much better than the pantry HEBs they had here when we first moved to the area. As for the empty building across the street. When Albertsons went out of business it sat empty for years. Then HEB opened there. That building will be occupied by something else eventually. Hopefully, it will be something entertaining for the young adults of Kingwood. I would love to see a skating rink or bowling alley here in Kingwood.

DVaz --- 8 years ago -

It didn't when Holiday Foods or Albertson's closed down.

Or, you could not bring them.

Tacky, maybe but seriously what are Kingwood kids and young singles supposed to do around here? I know we FINALLY have a theatre but what else is there? If they want any sort of entertainment they have to go to Humble or The Woodlands.

Tacky or not, it would be much nicer if we had things for them to do around our own area.

A huge empty building is tackier than any sort of legal business they could put in that spot.

Spec's Super Store would complete the circle of life in the Town Center area.

Spec's Super Store

Yes

freebyrdll --- 8 years ago -

@ DVas.... which store did you own at the center?

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

I think they should turn that space into a paint ball range!! Omg so much fun! Kids and adults would love it.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

"There's no deeper bonding than that that occurs when you're shooting each other." LOL

Dorothy Parker --- 8 years ago -

Definitely a space for entertainment. A skating rink is an excellent idea!

Great idea! I can think of no better fun than drawing down on Mom or Dad and watching that well placed round strike a vital area.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 8 years ago -

you could bring your grandparents, too, for some wholesome family fun!! Grandpa probably isn't as fast as he used to be!

wayward1 --- 8 years ago -

Catheter bag hit! Double bonus!

mutton --- 8 years ago -

Emp, tacky? Why, cos you do not like? Is family fun time for some of us, that and sitting in our drives drinking and mingling, lol...but seriously, not sure why a rink or bowling alley is tacky. What highly regarded family fun you suggest?

BYOB Strip Club with a big sign out front saying "Live! Totally Nude Women!".

As opposed to the arguably less desirable totally nude dead women.
