A 60-year-old Texas woman wasn't taking any chances Monday morning when she heard two intruders enter her home, grabbing her pistol and shooting one of the would-be thieves dead, police said.

The woman, who was not immediately identified, confronted the two armed men after they entered her Harris County home through an open garage door around 11:30 a.m., WTSP reported.

Cathy Hanks, a neighbor, said it's not surprising the woman fired her pistol when she saw a threat in her home, explaining: "That's really how we are. That's just Texas."

"It's the state of Texas. If you're going to go into someone's home, you're going to get shot," Hanks said.

Harris County Sheriff's Office's spokesman Thomas Gilliland told WTSP that both intruders -- neither of whom were identified -- were armed with pistols when the woman confronted them. She fired several shots and struck at least one man, who collapsed and died in her front yard.

Police found a gun next to the dead man's body. His accomplice jumped over the fence and escaped, though it's unclear if he was wounded in the incident.

The woman was not injured in the incident. She did not know the intruders, WTSP reported.

Police are still looking for the second intruder, described as a man in his 20s who was wearing dark clothing with red underwear peeking out of his pants.

"It's the state of Texas. If you're going to go into someone's home, you're going to get shot,"

LOL pretty much sums it up.

Go GOOD GUYS! (AND GALS!)

I hope the bad guys learn.

Don't mess with TEXANS!

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

I hope the bad guys learn.

There is one less bad guy in Texas.

Hiro Protagonist --- 7 years ago -

And how many less good guys are around because of impulsive gun suicides or domestic shootings or gun accidents? I think the number of people saved by having a gun at hand is considerably less than the number of people killed by impulsive gun actions or accidents.

Just an observation.

fuzz81 --- 7 years ago -

Hiro has the facts.

Dorothy Parker --- 7 years ago -

How about the 14 year old girl killed in Atascocita because she was mistaken for an intruder? Proud of that one, too?

Killing someone shouldn't be celebrated...you have a sick mind.

Not KU --- 7 years ago -

Good for her. Yes, score one for the responsible gun owner. Now how about all those road rage shootings? Good thing no one needs a gun license to go nuts.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Killing someone shouldn't be celebrated

Depends on who it is.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

impulsive gun suicides

So there would not be impulsive suicides if there weren't guns?

By the way, I think a person has the fundamental human right to determine if they don't want to live anymore.

fuzz81 --- 7 years ago -

Canada allows assisted suicide, because Canada is more free

I am no fan of dueling anecdotes on gun control. Does this really help anything??

There is a reasonable discussion to be had on if we as a country are doing all we can to balance our 2nd amendment right with a public safety issue of keeping guns out of the wrong hands.

IMO this reasonable discussion is being stopped by the NRA who have been very successful in advancing the position that any discussion of gun control is the first step in taking everyone's guns away. This a ridiculous position.

IMO there are things that could be done to improve gun control - but there is no room for any debate now, since so many see any change as a first step to disarmament.

NRA has done a great job - and the gun manufactures around the world should be very thankful.

Drug addicted teen out at 5am? Sounds like a product of liberal parents. Proud of that one?

Its not such a ridiculous position when viewed on balance with the far lefts position of eliminating the second amendment.

fuzz81 --- 7 years ago -

The second amendment is fine. However much to your chagrin, you or any other civilian are not a well regulated militia.

AMDG --- 7 years ago -

far lefts position of eliminating the second amendment.

Second amendment rights of private ownership have been decided - the 2nd amendment is not going anywhere

But the NRA has been very good at using this semi irrational fear as a pair of Chinese handcuffs on any productive discussion of gun control.

Not KU --- 7 years ago -

you or any other civilian are not a well regulated militia.

Exactly

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Mark, I suggest you go read the courts definition of militia.

Talking out of both sides of your mouth again.

Might as well say - "I'm all for the the right to bear arms, but...."

AMDG --- 7 years ago -

Might as well say - "I'm all for the the right to bear arms, but.

That is exactly what I am saying. There is tension and hopefully a balance between private ownership and the public safety issues.

There already is gun control - my only point is - we should be able, as a country to discuss if it can be improved. But we can't now -

fuzz81 --- 7 years ago -

Every other more civilized country has done it successfully, and healthcare too. America is crippled by low IQ simpletons.

Hiro Protagonist --- 7 years ago -

Yeah........ all drug addicts are liberals. Are you really this stupid?

No republicans ever use drugs. Just ask Rush.

I don't know any responsible AND licensed gun owner that doesn't want to keep guns out of the wrong hands. There are a few laws already aimed at threat. But bad guys don't follow the law and they steal guns or buy them illegally.

I also want to keep motor vehicles out of the hands of chronic drunk drivers.

I want to keep narcotics out of the hands of abusers.

Agree I guess - not sure i get the point though - is your point that the current gun control laws can not be improved ???

voice of reason --- 7 years ago -

there's something wrong with people who applaud killing others regardless of the reason.

do you ever jump to conclusions using actual facts? you are a poor excuse for a human being.

Karras --- 7 years ago -

America is crippled by low IQ simpletons.

Yes, you are right. That;s what happens when you water down the populace by brining in people from the middle east, North Africa, latin America and Canada.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Point is, we have laws making all that stuff illegal yet it still happens. We could apply the same logic (tougher, different laws) to any of those circumstances. The argument will be the same.

Karras --- 7 years ago -

do you ever jump to conclusions using actual facts?

I'm pretty sure that if the parent(s) vote they vote for democrats.

And I bet before she was killed if you asked any KU libs if its ok for your 14 year old girl to take drugs and hang out til 5am they would be ok with it.

Not KU --- 7 years ago -

Yes, you are right.

Some claim to be responsible gun owners. btw..Did anyone see the video of 60 something year old man shooting up utility trucks parked in front of the shooters house?

In short. Too many people with guns. Reform is needed.

Not KU --- 7 years ago -

^^^Here is a video of the Fla man shooting at the trucks.....pathetic
Responsible gun owner? No

Karras --- 7 years ago -

We've let muslims in this country who then shoot up a Christmas Party, Fly planes into buildings, and have kids who will eventually murder 49 people in a gay night club. So by your reasoning we should ban all muslims from coming into the country.

Or, most of the homicides in Chicago are by blacks. Therefore, blacks should not be able to have guns.

Not KU --- 7 years ago -

WTF...The walls in your mobile home are covered in Confederate flags arent they

Every law we have on the books gets broken - still don't see the logic in your point -

Do we have to establish some pecking order of laws, regulations we could improve - and have to stay in order ??

But back to my question - In your opinion do you think the current laws are as good as they can be ??

Karras --- 7 years ago -

I am just using your twisted logic.

BTW, Chicago has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country and the death count sits at 400 as of 7/31/17. And last year, 75% of those murdered in Chicago are black, and 71% of the murderers are black. Hispanics account for the other 24.6% of murderers. That's not racist, that's the facts.

Prolix Raconteur --- 7 years ago -

Couldn't make that any bigger, could you?

fuzz81 --- 7 years ago -

Easier for the old geezers to read it that way

Karras --- 7 years ago -

Nice deflection. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig.

How come Chicago Chamber of Commerce doesn't use that graph when promoting their city?
