Turner had the city unprepared for the rains and Houstonians are paying for it (I guess he was too busy watching the Texas lose and or Macgregor lose last night). Not saying to call for an evacuation yesterday, but warn/evacuate the people who always get flooded. Have emergency services on stand by near those neighborhoods in South Houston etc. Seeing our people using inflatable beds, walking in chest high water to save themselves is an embarrassment to the city.

Watching his news conference this morning he wouldn't answer if he spoke to the President (or the Governor for that matter) but to the mayors of Dallas and New York? WTH? I'm thinking Abbott and the President would be more helpful than the Mayor of NY.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

A very dismal performance.

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

Voluntary Evacuations were issued yesterday for Seabrook area. But do you really need to be TOLD to get out of Dodge? People need to use their own smarts esp if the Mayor is going to be that lackadaisical.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

I was gonna say I thought he was doing well. LOL. I like that he's calm and calculated. He said please continue to pray bc prayer has a way of moving things along and we can use that help.

You guys, lol. There's only SO much prep the gov't can do. We are suppose to be WISE and take precautions so we don't need to be rescued!

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 7 years ago -

I agree- he's pleasantly surprised me!

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

A lot of the film footage last last night found curious young people in trapped cars, under over passes waiting for high water to receded. They weren't going to or from work. They were just curious. They finally came out and specifically told the young people to stay home, that this was not the time to be cruising and looking around as it is dangerous. Again. They have to be TOLD?

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

It's typical Tink. Karass is suppose to be all about less gov't, YET he blames our Democratic Mayor for a natural disasters effects on us bc we didn't save everyone?? We are probably MORE efficient than most cities.

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

But Houston has some dumb people that it seems they have to be told what to do instead of using their best judgement. Or those who wait for the officials to come rescue them. There is a culture out there, generations old that learn to wait for help to the point of putting themselves in danger while they wait, only to blame the City later.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

This was not unexpected. The resources should've been propositioned.

genxer --- 7 years ago -

I think he's been doing very well considering there was like 1 day to mobilize for a city of 6 million people.

whatchamacallit --- 7 years ago -

The man told people that it was ok to use the electricity even if there was flood water in their homes. What a smart guy and great leader.

Hiro Protagonist --- 7 years ago -

He's done a terrible job! He should've raised the entire city about 10 feet higher. Why didn't he just do that? What an idiot!

vernsgirl --- 7 years ago -

That is complete wrong!! THe mayor and city have gotten as prepared as possible for this unprecented disaster!! I'd like to know how many Kingwood people have gotten their flat bottom boats out to offer help that the city is just asking for???

Dorothy Parker --- 7 years ago -

I think the city officials and the residents are doing amazing considering what is happening!

This is not a political situation....it's an unprecedented natural disaster.

jackass --- 7 years ago -

Doubt it, trump is too busy working on his golf game.

Actually, I believe you are wrong. Didn't he already order federal help for the areas most affected? However, since you obviously hate the President I guess you need to complain about everything.

andreweggplant --- 7 years ago -

I have to respectfully disagree. He is doing and handling things better than any previous mayor.

It is the people who don't feel they need to listen and follow rules that cause the problems.

There will always be people wading but through flood waters in a catastrophe like this. Unless you have some sort of crystal ball that no one else has it is impossible to know who, what, where will Flood to what extent.

Maybe instead of "b@&%h, get off you a@$ and start helping.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Bull. There's plenty of flood data for this city. Its not like its never happened before.

Tennismom111 --- 7 years ago -

Glad the governor signed a declaration early in preparation for this disaster. We were told early it was going to be bad with days of rain. The mayor not mentioning Abboutt instead the NYC governor is not good for the situation.

. Everyone please be carful and stay off the road.

Karras --- 7 years ago -

Karass is suppose to be all about less gov't, YET he blames our Democratic Mayor for a natural disasters effects on us bc we didn't save everyone??

That's incorrect. Government does have some purpose: break up monopolies, defend our nation, enforce laws and help with natural disasters.

Turner has been here forever, he should have planned for the worse, pray for the best. These areas get flooded everytime we have torrential rains: Tax day floods, memorial day floods the most recent. They could have had feeder roads closed and responders waiting. It seems Turner and his team are 12 hours behind schedule.

Karras --- 7 years ago -

It is the people who don't feel they need to listen and follow rules that cause the problems.

B.S. Look a the people that are wading through the floods, most of which are families. I am sure if certain neighborhoods and apartment complexes located in the most vulnerable areas of Houston, were asked to voluntarily evacuate many would have.

Karras --- 7 years ago -

Exactly, W and Obama had a history of waiting several days before allowing for federal help and funds,

Tennismom111 --- 7 years ago -

I was going to say the gov't job is to help with these situations. Karras read my mind.

Zapper009 --- 7 years ago -

There's only SO much prep the gov't can do.

What about having volunteers already available, in advance?

Why not pre-stage medical supplies, boats, and shelters in advance?

How about this - publish key emergency contact numbers such as the Coast Guard, in advance.

DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

Think for yourselves!

jackass --- 7 years ago -

I answered the question. You can guess and believe whatever you want...

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

Trump Tweeted that all is going well in Texas. He knows, right??

Tennismom111 --- 7 years ago -

No matter what President Trump says or doesn't say is wrong to some people.

a3997660uu --- 7 years ago -

Easy to predict: The same old predictable KU political trolls using Harvey as an excuse to throw jabs.

Hard to predict: The perfect response to this event. I was here for Rita when everyone tried to leave town. Bad idea. Thankful I decided to stay, even though staying was far from fun.

Stay safe everyone.

Im Incognito --- 7 years ago -

I answered the question. You can guess and believe whatever you want...?

It's too bad you have to be so negative all the time. The facts are that he signed an order providing help for the area. Sort of real hard to get around that. But you believe what you want.

I guess your name says it all.

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

He made his statement from Camp David. Hasn't even done a fly over. You you must agree Texas is "going well"?

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

The facts are that he signed an order providing help for the area.

I don't want his money. I don't want his lies. He knows nothing.

I'll bet he knows more than you. You may not want his money but I'm sure the people who lost everything do. I feel sorry for you being so negative. I believe in Karma and, in the end, it always gets even.

Tryingto --- 7 years ago -

How do you get to George R Brown, if you have to wade from the street and no one can get down 45, all of 59, 288 etc. and the flash flooding is ongoing?

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

I am not being negative. I disagree with Trump and his statement. Again, so you agree with Trump? "All is going well in Texas". Then you are one of the lucky ones. I disagree.

jackass --- 7 years ago -

You don't know me at all...I'm one of the most care free people you'll ever meet, although we'll never meet.

I've been reading what you write for months and a lot of it is negative. That's my impression. I don't comment a lot but that's just me. BTW...the President is coming down on Tuesday. I didn't vote for him but respect the office whether I agree or disagree.

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

BTW...the President is coming down on Tuesday.

Good, Tuesday-Wed. we are supposed to get another 50" of rain as Harvey makes a U Turn and comes directly towards Houston. He can see how well Texas is doing.
