Emperor of Kingwood --- 8 years ago -

The next president could be dealing with an ObamaCare insurer meltdown in their very first month.

The incoming administration will take office just as the latest ObamaCare enrollment tally comes in, delivering a potentially crucial verdict about the still-shaky healthcare marketplaces.

The fourth ObamaCare signup period begins about one week before Election Day, and it will end about one week before inauguration on Jan. 20. After mounting complaints from big insurers about losing money this year, the results could serve as a kind of judgment day for ObamaCare, experts say.
?The next open enrollment period is key,? Larry Levitt, president of the Kaiser Family Foundation said.

The Obama administration has struggled for several years to bring young, healthy people into the marketplaces, which is needed to offset the medical costs of older and sicker customers.

These problems are coming to light this year, as insurers get their first full look at ObamaCare customer data. Some, like UnitedHealth Group, say they?ve seen enough, and are already vowing to leave the exchanges.

Levitt and other experts warn that if the numbers don?t improve this year, more insurers could bolt. That would deal a major blow to marketplace competition, while also driving up rates and keeping even more people out of the exchanges.

Already, many insurers this year are proposing substantial rate hikes with the hopes of making up for higher recent medical costs. The average premium increase next year is about 9 percent, according to an analysis of 19 cities by Kaiser Family Foundation. But some hikes are far higher: Blue Cross Blue Shield has proposed increases of 40 percent in Alabama and 60 percent in Texas.

That is a huge increase. I wish we could turn back the clock to pre obamacare times.

Ava --- 8 years ago -

Aetna is reporting the same thing...big article in yesterday's Chronicle

Obamacare can't work because it forgot about one thing. These insurance companies are FOR PROFIT companies. If they can't make a profit they will go out of business. When you force a company to do something that is not profitable all their other customers will suffer.

Prolix Raconteur --- 8 years ago -

Key component that isn't happening as planned.

These insurance companies are FOR PROFIT companies.

God forbid they make a profit! They should just make enough to cover their expenses. They should run that business because they want to serve society. Anyway, that's what the libtards think.

Butterbean --- 8 years ago -

You're going to love single payer healthcare.

fuzz81 --- 8 years ago -

Many people, including trump himself on video say that trump loves single payer healthcare

Butterbean --- 8 years ago -

From here, among others

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 8 years ago -

I bought a plan off the Marketplace. First year was awesome but the plan I had almost tripled going into the second year so I had to chose another one. That one had a $6300.00 deductible with some preventative care covered. It's better than nothing and I don't have medical issues that require anything expensive or frequent. My biggest complaint is how you just cannot maintain relationships with physicians bc every year you change plans and every year you have to use different docs. No Bueno from the patient perspective.

Good thing is no refusal of pre existing conditions. That was badly needed.

What's Hillary position in 3008 she was for it, then in 2016 it became a "theoretical debate that will never happen" oh let me add on video

steinhoister2016 --- 8 years ago -

But hillary but hillary....lmao

DatBoyHooD --- 8 years ago -

Eh were talking single payer and the candidates position on it.

sheddy --- 8 years ago -

No refusal of pre existing conditions was the killer. No one could afford car insurance if they covered people after they totaled their car. It was set up to fail. They want a single payer and the workers as usual will pay for the one's who won't.

DatBoyHooD --- 8 years ago -

You can't compare it to car insurance, the left can't offer rebuttals snd they disappear

SoupIsGoodFood --- 8 years ago -

Liberal diversions.

They can't debate the fact that Obamacare is a failure.

fuzz81 --- 8 years ago -

It's a failure in Texas because the state refuses to take federal money, that the taxpayers put in.

They do that because they want it to fail.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 8 years ago -

LOL......

Still can't address why it's failing in states that DID accept federal money.

BTW...... those states that did accept federal money will more than likely be picking up a larger part of the tab once Obamacare takes its last breath.

fuzz81 --- 8 years ago -

http://www.cnbc.com/2015/05/29/texas-pays-a-big-price-for-saying-no-to-medicaid-expansion.html

It's already costing Texas $100 billion

fuzz81 --- 8 years ago -

Which state?

fuzz81 --- 8 years ago -

$1.3 billion? Oh my. That's so yuuuuge.

It's costing Texas alone $100 billion, plus the $5.5 billion loss by hospitals for uninsured

SoupIsGoodFood --- 8 years ago -

LOL........ I read the first line in your posted article.

So the $100billion Texas didn't take from the Feds is now a COST?

That's funny.

It would have cost Texas taxpayers much more down the line.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 8 years ago -

$1.3 billion? Oh my. That's so yuuuuge.

Doesn't matter. I proved my point.

Jeff11233 --- 8 years ago -

That's what's causing the meltdown. The insurance need to make money to stay in business. That's Capitalism. That's what our country has believed for years until Obama came in anyway.

DatBoyHooD --- 8 years ago -

Lol soup should I bump the thread about the coat when the govt portion goes down and the fact they don't cover administration cost. Which in Texas is 2.5 billion a year

I thought this tired argument was over

fuzz81 --- 8 years ago -

Hood will ghettosplain it for us

SoupIsGoodFood --- 8 years ago -

LOL......... bump it.

Should be good for a laugh.

RayofHope --- 8 years ago -

The Obama administration has been a major disappointment. The first African-American president produced racial problems, reduced standard of living for African-Americans, and chaos in the world.

What will Hillary bring?

SoupIsGoodFood --- 8 years ago -

More. Of. The. Same.

Prolix Raconteur --- 8 years ago -

What will Hillary bring?

a spike in pantsuit sales.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 8 years ago -

BWAHAHAHAHAHA

SoupIsGoodFood --- 8 years ago -

Hood will ghettosplain it for us

I hope so. Maybe you can learn something for once.

steinhoister2016 --- 8 years ago -

More. Of. The. Same.

More of the same thing you enthusiastically voted for in 2000 and 2004.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 8 years ago -

No. The stuff I didn't vote for in 2008 and 2012.

steinhoister2016 --- 8 years ago -

No, you voted for it in 2000 and 2004...thats why the remaining pubs are trying to distance themselves from bush and cheney now...they were heroes then and rinos now because they wont endorse trump.

Bunch of sheep, the gop

SoupIsGoodFood --- 8 years ago -

No, I didn't.

steinhoister2016 --- 8 years ago -

Uh huh...

I will tell --- 8 years ago -

That $100 billion is a bait-and-switch from the federal government.

Butterbean --- 8 years ago -

I believe:

If you purchase from the ACA menu in Texas, come income tax time you get a direct tax credit for the premiums. Not deduction, a direct tax credit.

Thanks Obama.
