Well, now Ben is apologizing for grabbing a woman's breast amid all the Weinstein scandal.

Affleck aplogy

Its an epidemic. What's the solution? Why and how have we come to this? I cannot imagine if we could see it all by some light of truth, how bad it would be.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

There's another one now.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

I apologize for looking at, or touching the breast of any woman.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

Looking isn't groping!

AMDG --- 7 years ago -

What's the solution?

Wish i knew. Certainly the amount of objectifying women that is almost constantly all around us makes these kinds of things almost seem - normal.

I am also amazed at how easily us men can seperate the women we objectify from the women we love.

We are all fathers, sons, brothers, husbands and would be enraged if these things happened to the woman we love. Yet we don't seem to generate any significant outrage for "those other women"

Saw something posted somewhere - where this girl recorded the cat calls made at her - and surprisingly the men in the videos seemed fine with that - almost proud of it. Strange.

Judas --- 7 years ago -

Why and how have we come to this?

We men can't help that we are ridden with a penis and all the hormones that go along with it. Gimme a break.

Judas --- 7 years ago -

I apologize for looking at, or touching the breast of any woman.?

Don't apologize. It's just your neanderthal coming out, caveman Bob.

Prolix Raconteur --- 7 years ago -

LOL explains a lot. I've personally never been ridden with a penis.

BuiltinTX70 --- 7 years ago -

Really weird...I mean wasn't that on TV and you could actually see it??

No one at the time brought it up???

And now because of Weinstein - this apology is being demanded?

Prolix Raconteur --- 7 years ago -

No one at the time brought it up???

Seems to have been the common theme in those circles. Just part of the business.

BuiltinTX70 --- 7 years ago -

Common in those circles when no one is actually in the room where it happens....wasn't the BA thing on an MTV show where you, me, and everyone would have seen it?

No real comment, no substance, not even a semi humane thought. Par for the course for a troll.

What substance did your comment contain?

Not KU --- 7 years ago -

Well, now Ben is apologizing for grabbing a woman's breast

Does anyone here believe his sincerity and he will never do it again ?

I for one do not.

I was at a bar the other night, and three different men felt it was appropriate to touch me. One even went so far as to kiss my forehead. This wasn't a crowded bar, it wasn't like it was an accidental brushing. This was a conscious choice to put an arm around my waist or try to tickle my stomach. I was so uncomfortable and said as much. One guy even said to me "I don't even know you but I feel like I have to touch you." Thankfully, he didn't after I asked him not to. What is the deal? Why do some men think it's ok to place their hands on a female they don't know? Do they think they're entitled to it? Looking and leering is just as bad. Telling me I'd be much more attractive if I smiled (thanks, Salvation Army guy) is just as bad. Objectifying women is just as bad. It is not ok. Doesn't matter if you're a guy at a bar, a movie star, or the President.

Not KU --- 7 years ago -

See if she wants her money back.

Dorothy Parker --- 7 years ago -

The casting couch has existed since Hollywood has existed. It was (and is) largely ignored and an ugly norm for women to be manipulated in this way.

So sad and gross.

Well said. And i do believe its a huge entitlement issue. Its SO COMMON that its truly an epidemic. And 1 in 8 women are raped on college campuses. And remember those stats are based on assaults that WERE reported, and think of how many are not? Its NOT funny, its NOT ok and men need to realize its that the boys will be boys mentality IS PART of the problem. Many will come out and say its not right, like Affleck did, only to find hes doing it too. Now, this morning, another big shot with Miramax has been suspended due to possible harassment issues. See, thats the problem....they are all of such a like mind, they dont hold each other accountable, no checks and balances, and POWER.. These men see women as a lower life form for their entertainment. Thats an awful thing to say.

And all this coming out will hopefully get women out of their mode of fear and complacency, out of the "i better not make waves, who will believe me" mentality. Its a part of the problem too. That has to stop. If i was an actress out there, I'd go to all auditions with them knowing i was recording the meeting.

Im not sure whats more frustrating, that THIS is so out of control OR that men get really defensive and try to minimize a seriously deep cultural issue....like Judas did. Thats exactly HOW they think.

Our boys need to have their mind sets completely re-educated.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Are men objectified in a different way?

Not KU --- 7 years ago -

Our boys need to have their mind sets completely re-educated

Says the same gender that think men are no longer masculine. These are the things that make men think women are crazy

Dorothy Parker --- 7 years ago -

Men think women are crazy because they don't want to be ogled or touched by strangers? You think Mothers shouldn't teach their sons to respect women and personal space?

You have odd priorities, Markster.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

Can you explain what that has to do with the single issue we are trying to discuss? This isnt about DATING or relationship issues.

I mean no disrespect, but are you autistic or have a learning disability? All your thoughts seem to run together even when theres no correlation, and quite frankly its hard when trying to discuss something. Are you possibly kidding? I honestly do not know.

As for are men objectified question, yes they are. And i assume you are referring to sugar daddy type things? but those are consensual relationship issues, right? This is not a relationship issue, is it?

Sexual harassment is a game of power and the vast majority of time he is the one with it.

Dorothy Parker --- 7 years ago -

Using your power to make or break someone's career based on how they react to your sexual advances, is an abhorrent reality and it happens over every sector of society. From restaurants to corporate ladders to Hollywood.

This isn't new or shocking, it's always been this way no matter the era. Mad Men, anyone?

Exactly true- and men immediately get on the defensive every time this subject comes up, because it threatens their sense of superiority and control.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

, because it threatens their sense of superiority and control.?

BS. Maybe the defensiveness (if it's true) might come from the extremely one sided perspective.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 7 years ago -

Yes! That would be the men's perspective! lol

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

No its called objective analysis.

mutton --- 7 years ago -

We men can't help that...says a man, lol. But if committed by one, say, a political opponent we speak a different tone. Ok, gotcha.

End of day, is a reality for most women. Has happened to me and would bet most women on this board.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 7 years ago -

Got that right-

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

This guy is clearly a bucket of Monkey vomit. However, how many times has this type of thing happened when in reality it's been a quid pro quo arrangement gone wrong.

mutton --- 7 years ago -

Not as many times as you may wish dear emp. But as a male, figures that comment.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

We just have to go case by case i guess. THIS case is an open and shut case. There is no defending him. He admitted everything and it is bringing to light that this is a big problem. If its her word against his, we have to call that what it is.

In Cosby's case, it appears that its about the same as Weinstein's, but we dont have a verdict yet. But man, this is just everywhere. Hollywood has alwyas had the casting couch but men deny and then the women dont hold them accountable and it all just goes away, except it dosent.

The Awe Inspiring JoelleDrees (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

This is exactly the type of mindset that is so disgusting. It's also victim shaming at its finest. You have women coming out of the woodwork to accuse these men of sexual harassment... And the first thought is "they're just looking to get something out of it." Did you know Rose McGowen accused Harvey Weinstein of rape over and over again but was disregarded because she failed to provide adequate proof? Did you know that women everywhere are disregarded because we fail to provide adequate proof? We are touched, cat called, berated, called names, and forced into situations that are harmful to not only our bodies but our psyche as well. And if we speak out, we are trying to gain something. If we point fingers, we are just scorned women trying to make the men look bad. After all, we're only women. Surely we were asking for it in some way.

By taking a person's deplorable actions and placing some of the blame on the victim you are condoning rape culture.

mutton --- 7 years ago -

Yay Joelle!

You can't see through your own bias. Because a,woman says it, therefore it must be 100% true as if women don't lie and aren't vindictive. If you think that doesn't happen frequently your niaeve.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Did you know that women everywhere are disregarded because we fail to provide adequate proof?

So we should automatically believe women and prosecute men because she says so? Maybe you should read the law.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

If we point fingers, we are just scorned women trying to make the men look bad.

Where is your self righteous indignation for the women who get mad at the boss and make up all kinds of accusations?

Dorothy Parker --- 7 years ago -

Emp is the perfect example of why these things continue to happen. All women should dress like trolls and be self loathing so men will not feel tempted by her charms. Otherwise, who's to say she wasn't asking for it? Did no really mean no, or was she just being a tease? Have you seen the way she dresses/acts? She's probably lying, she's a beyotch anyway.

This is why it's important to raise our sons to respect women and lose the sick mindset displayed above.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Otherwise, who's to say she wasn't asking for it??

Can you even read and comprehend? Or, are you only capable of myopic thought and analysis.
