Scinario:
Black man on street sees police and runs away. IDK why. Police tackle man. Man screams in pain and is dragged off into an police patty wagon. Freddie Gray died Sunday with a broken neck and his spine severely severed.

No reason for apprehending this man was given. Freddie Gray had done nothing wrong.

Washington Post

Prolix Raconteur --- 10 years ago -

"Scinario" is the name of my Italian Death Metal band.

voice of reason --- 10 years ago -

don't you mean sinario, pro?

"BALTIMORE ? City officials suspended six police officers Monday as they investigate the death of a 25-year-old man who suffered a severe spinal cord injury while in police custody."~Washington Post

Perfection --- 10 years ago -

And in other news an illegal rapes a 10 year old in Kenner LA and claims it was consensual love making.

I'm more disgusted by that.

Dorothy Parker --- 10 years ago -

They severed his spine?? Omg. :(

SoupIsGoodFood --- 10 years ago -

Let's not forget the 70 plus shootings in Chicago over the last week.

Perfection --- 10 years ago -

And the 37 police officers killed in the line of duty so far in 2015.

a889324uu --- 10 years ago -

This man's spine was severed by law enforcement, and instead of discussing the issue, some of you clowns deflect and bring up completely irrelevant information and topics.
Really Soupy Brains, Chicago?

The man's spine was severed.

How you can find that acceptable is beyond me.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 10 years ago -

How you can find that acceptable is beyond me.

Where did I say it was acceptable?

Impiety --- 10 years ago -

Heard this on the radio, is there a video? If you fight the police you can get hurt. Better to fight in court...

You can call me Michelle --- 10 years ago -

Yikes!!

I hope this was an accident. How can there be no evidence of an attack with an unexplained spinal cord injury? Did his leg get pulled out of socket? If so, would that be a cause for spinal injury?

a889324uu --- 10 years ago -

There is evidence of an attack. The man was screaming in pain and physically could not walk.

Soup, you said it was acceptable when instead of discussing the topic, you brought up Chicago and the "shootings over the last week."
You constantly deflect. You are notorious for bringing up Chicago, which has zero relevance to this thread.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

Officers said in a court document justifying the arrest that they were in a high-crime area on that Sunday morning and that Gray, who was 5-foot-8 and 145 pounds, ran when he saw them, prompting a pursuit. The officers said they then found a switchblade in his pocket and arrested him.

This is absolute garbage for probable cause. When did the police become the Gestapo?

Not KU --- 10 years ago -

Soup, you said it was acceptable when instead of discussing the topic,

Agreed. Deflecting the conversation is the same as turning a blind eye to the topic at hand is the same as being ok with the outcome of a persons spine being severed while in police custody. A heartless demeanor for your fellow man is one that should be re-evaluated introspectively.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 10 years ago -

Soup, you said it was acceptable when instead of discussing the topic, you brought up Chicago and the "shootings over the last week."

Show me where I SAID it was acceptable.

I'll wait.

Baltimore Mayor 'Angry' About Freddie Gray's Unexplained Death After Arrest

0

Baltimore officials said today they share residents? frustration with the lack of answers for why Freddie Gray, whose family says he was injured during his arrest last week by Baltimore police, died Sunday.

?This is a very, very tense time for Baltimore city,? Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said at a news conference this afternoon. ?And I understand the community?s frustration. I understand it because I?m frustrated. I?m angry that we are here again. That we have had to tell another mother that their child is dead.

"I?m frustrated that not only that we're here but we don?t have all of the answers.

Just a guess, but my thought is someone snapped his neck during transport.

randyjet --- 10 years ago -

I think it is obvious from the video that the kids neck was snapped when they took him down. It looks like his head hit the wall and broke his neck before the guy started filming. From the way his legs cannot move and he is screaming in pain, and they lifted him into the van, they simply compounded the injury and made it fatal. It is not intentional killing him, but he is still just as dead as if it had been.

Not KU --- 10 years ago -

President of the F.O.P says protest looks like a Lynch mob and had to re-word his statement. 5 police have been interviewed and said it must have happened as a result of Mr. Gray not being properly secured in the van. The mayor declares an independent panel to investigate.

randyjet --- 10 years ago -

You cannot break your neck by rolling around the bed of a truck. On the other hand, you can get your neck broken by having one or two good size cops tackling a person up against the wall. The fact that the kid could not walk after they cuffed him shows that fact that the cops accidentally broke his neck. Then they compound the error by dragging him and throwing him into the van.

Not KU --- 10 years ago -

Agreed Randy. Im hopeful an independent investigation gets to the bottom of the "bad apples" within the Baltimore P.D.

Its a shame fellow officers/police dept's. aren't more aggressive in getting rid of these kinds of officers that give a bad name to Law enforcement.

randyjet --- 10 years ago -

I find it hard to call the officers who were involved bad apples since what they did not deviate from standard police procedures. The only fault I can see is the original reason for the arrest. Then the tackle while ordinary obviously impaired the kid,and the cops did not think that they had done any damage to him. The only fault I can see is that the police ignored the FACT he could not walk. So the worst that can be said about the cops is that they were sloppy and cared less about the victim. It was an accident from my point of view.

FANCY PANTS --- 10 years ago -

Here is Freddie Grays arrest record. It must be horrable to be arrested so often. I know you all will be upset that I have posted it but it is interesting. Of course it does not make it ok that he died, he should not have.

Jeff --- 10 years ago -

I feel bad that this man died. But why do people in prior posts keep on referring to him as a kid. He was a 25 year old man. Innocent people don't run from police. The police obviously were familiar with him? Which is probably why he ran. Let's let the investigation take its course and all facts come out. Hopefully cooler heads will prevale and the people of Baltimore can get their city back.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

Innocent people don't run from police.

Are you saying that if every time I see a police car and I start running, (even though I'm not breaking the law or have no warrants), that the police have the right to apprehend and kill me?

Jeff --- 10 years ago -

No. Not at all. But I'm not sure that if you make eye contact and then start running, it's probably not a good idea. He had an extensive record and probably known by the local police. I hope they get all the answers quickly. As I stated I feel bad this man died. Something obviously went very wrong. But I think people really need to look at the root cause of these incidents

You can call me Michelle --- 10 years ago -

As frequently as he was arrested, the police who patrol that neighborhood surely knew him and that he was a known drug dealer. Isn't that enough probable cause to pursue him when he fled?

Fiona --- 10 years ago -

Reports are coming out that this man had a spinal injury from a car accident.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 10 years ago -

Seeing that too.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

it's probably not a good idea.

So, if I look at a cop and then decide I want to run, is that probable cause to be stopped and killed?

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

As frequently as he was arrested, the police who patrol that neighborhood surely knew him and that he was a known drug dealer. Isn't that enough probable cause to pursue him when he fled?

No, its not. there were no active warrants and the police had not witnessed him comitting a crime and no crime was reported that was attributed to him.

Do you really want the police to have this kind of power?

Fiona --- 10 years ago -

Innocent people do not run from the police.

Not KU --- 10 years ago -

Reports are coming out that this man had a spinal injury from a car accident.

I am very very skeptical of this. How is one able to run after having spinal injury? This doesn't add up. I would seriously question the source of where that story came from.

Jeff --- 10 years ago -

Maybe that's why he got caught.

Fiona --- 10 years ago -

I am very very skeptical of this. How is one able to run after having spinal injury? This doesn't add up. I would seriously question the source of where that story came from.

It is also very questionable that one would get a severed spine from a tackle. More likely he already had an injury that was aggravated by running, a take down and a bumpy ride.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

Innocent people do not run from the police.

What crime did he commit?

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

It is also very questionable that one would get a severed spine from a tackle

Have you ever played football?

Fiona --- 10 years ago -

What crime did he commit??

Like I said innocent people don't run from the police.

Have you ever played football??

First cops are not football players. Second plenty of people play football and if a severed spine was typical I don't think many would play.

Detonator --- 10 years ago -

This AHOLE was no angel. He was arrested because he was a criminal. PERIOD>

The cops should be able to arrest every damn criminal out there looting. And if they even THINK of shooting Kill the SOBS dead. This Liberal Logic crap is an abysmal failure. Overwhelming force is understood by these animals. THAT is what it will take to corral them.
