In line at HEB and the 30 something mother in front of me has the latest I-phone, expensive yoga pants, MK purse. Kids are well dressed with expensive shoes. She buys sugary cereals, Cokes and other sugary drinks and not the cheapest frozen foods.
Yes it is, when I was young my wife and I both worked and struggled to make ends meet, didn't have expensive any thing ,but my kids were clean and dressed and fed ,but we always made too much money for any kind of assistance/it would have been nice to have. I am now proud that I never needed any assistance from the government, there is clearly something wrong with that woman having all the extras and paying with lone star card.
No idea what this specifics are in her case but a lot of people eat sugary crappy cereal and cokes daily. Typical American diet for many. It appears they are doing well but on gov't assistance. Our system has a lot of "issues" and nothing ever changes...no one takes the initiative to make it better.
If they required people on food stamps to only buy certain foods, I'm sure many would find they didn't need them. I've told my husband I could probably get us through a week on food stamps, but we'd be sick of rice, beans and oatmeal. Buying food out of the freezer section might be easy, but it won't go very far.
I guess I failed to mention the newer model SUV in the parking lot.
I'm very happy with my life. Although relatively low middle class (I didn't even graduate high school) I'm very proud that I have never ask for or received any government help. Although I have very meager possessions, I got them all on my own.
This was no garage sale purse, shoes, Iphone or SUV. Maybe get rid of the SUV and Iphone use the proceeds to buy groceries instead of relying on other peoples money.
I never understand how people notice what someone is paying with. At HEB the card machine is (probably purposefully) a good distance away from where the next person stands to start loading their groceries. IMO You would really have to be in their personal space to see what kind of card they were swiping or putting into the chip slot. .
I go to HEB almost every day. You know what they are paying with, since they don't care who knows. I pay taxes, so I do think it is my business. I've told before about how I was behind two women, dressed really nice, with their huge designer purses. They each had a basket and each paid with their lone star card. When I walked out the door, a man was loading their groceries in the back of an expensive car, can't remember now what it was. He was parked in handicapped parking. It just really ticked me off. Say I'm nosey, I don't care, I'm sick of paying for freeloaders.
So it is possible that she isn't a leach. I'm not saying that it is impossible that she is a leach, lord knows when I moonlighted at the Walmart off West Rd and 45, you knew when the foodstamps were transferred because all hell broke lose in that store.
I don't mind helping someone. Everyone at sometime has run into situations that are beyond their control. I do have a problem with people who consider it a way of life. Do you really shop HEB, because surely you know you are right on top of each other checking out. I can also usually tell when the person in front of me is going to pull out a wad of cash.
I don't like any of our money wasted, but I would like everyone to contribute. How many years do you suggest is enough before they stand on their own to two feet? I'm for the hand up, not hand out, at least for not too long.
Gold jewelry, high dollar sneakers, nails and hair done or.......flip flops and pajama bottoms! If they are taking money out of YOUR pocket, shouldn't you care about how long they take it. Please send in my share if you don't mind giving lazy people money to waste.
