I've been told the fireworks are going to be set off at the 18th hole Island course this year. Are they still going to be visible from the high school parking lot?? Does anybody know?? SO MANY people go there to watch them and we're all going to be really disappointed if we can't see anything!

Anybody??

tonyaust --- 8 years ago -

The Town Center fireworks are always at the end of the Festival in the Park at around 9pm. And always on July 4th.

We fire 6" shells which typically explode at around 300' so we do not expect any difficulty seeing them from all the usual locations. We did move to the 18th green fairway to accommodate the Country Club who contributed to the cost for the first time. The location is further South and West but is significantly higher. I think the other locations (Kings Harbor tonight and Overlook on Tuesday) shoot 3" shells as they do not require such a big protected area around the firing location. We did look at doing the same so that they would only be visible from the Park and the Club and we could have a longer display. But we decided to stick with the bigger shells that cost us around $1300 a minute!!

Nevermind!

kasey --- 8 years ago -

Great info. Thanks tonyaust!!

DVaz --- 8 years ago -

Was so much better when the firefighters did it at the Bear Branch Gazebo!

tonyaust --- 8 years ago -

The regulations wouldnt permit that now. We have to have a City and State permit and need a 400ft radius around the firing site with nothing in it! And 800ft radius with nothing combustible,

Thank you so much for sharing! It helps us finding best location!

Well this is total BS because we all just sat at town center for an hour and couldn't see ANYTHING. All the sudden at about 9:30 we stared hearing booms and everybody realized that we weren't going to be able to see them. Great job guys. The kids who all waited are all absolutely devastated because they didn't get to see fireworks. Hope all the country club members enjoyed them, since they are the only ones who got to enjoy it.

Guess what - at $1300 a minute, it was a big waste of money!!!

I was driving on Kingwood Dr between HEB and Kingwood HS, and it was absolutely not visible to anyone at the usual sites - and we've been watching Kingwood fireworks for 12 years now. What a huge disappointment for all of the families, the kids especially :(

Hope the country clubbers enjoyed it, because no one else did!

a1352810uu --- 7 years ago -

Kingwood Country Club helped contribute for the first time and we're the only ones who saw it. Good job. I heard they had an amazing show.

kasey --- 7 years ago -

I'm so sad and pissed. Night ruined

Dorothy Parker --- 7 years ago -

We sat in the Randall's parking lot and saw some of them, a lot were really low, though.

Definitely not the display we've seen in years past.

Sideboom --- 7 years ago -

Well tonyaust, can you explain the fireworks to is now? Same place I been watch since 2008.
N O T H I N G

SHAlumni11 --- 7 years ago -

Yea I'd love love see an explanation.. considering I took my 1.5 year old out to see them for the first time and we saw nothing.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

You couldnt see anything from any of the regular spots. They were either too far away or not high enough. standing in Town Center, you couldnt see a thing looking over that Remax building, lol. People were just leaving in droves. It was an epic fail.

Things happen sometimes but they need to return to the original plan.

Kathy D --- 7 years ago -

Well, what a huge disappointment tonight! What a waste of money. I hope my association dues did not contribute to the cost of this show, which no one got to see. The shows over the past 15 years have always been fantastic. Our kids were so disappointed. I hope they move the fireworks site back to the original location next year.

witchywoman --- 7 years ago -

No you don't pay a penny towards it.

Such a shame that it sounds like things didn't go as planned this year. I'm glad we stayed in and watched Shameless instead.

kwpeep --- 7 years ago -

We were able to see them from the KHS lot - we were over by the practice football fields - it wasn't a great view & we didn't stay for all of them, but they could definitely be seen. They barely cleared the tree line.

whatchamacallit --- 7 years ago -

Yes, a disappoinment. Started really late and I thought maybe we weren't going to be able to see anything, but at almost 930 we started seeing them but very low and not nearly as spectacular as it has been in the past, at the old location. I guess if they don't change them back to where they were before, we won't go next year.

People that were new to Kingwood joined us tonight and I was really embarrassed, after telling them what a nice display we have here every year we ended up with not much to speak of!

Again, what a disappointment!

What area could see them from the new location? Just the Country Club?

Maybe everyone needs to converge on that location next year?

a4843221uu --- 7 years ago -

Such a major disappointment! We have gone to the same place for 13 years to view the fireworks (town center) and could not see 1 firework tonight. There were probably 20 kids and they were all so upset! We deserve an explanation and MUCH better communication KW

Who approved this? I'm thinking that we should all let our City Councilman, Dave Martin know about this: David.P.Martin@marsh.com

If he isn't responsible, he should be accountable. My nephew was crying because he didn't see any fireworks. I guess the members of the Country Club had a great view.

How much did they pay?

SineadORebellion --- 7 years ago -

How much did they pay??

Zapper009 --- 7 years ago -

That's terrible!!

whatchamacallit --- 7 years ago -

So...for $75 a person, country club members stole the 4th of July celebration from the rest of Kingwood? What moron decided to do that, and what is their excuse? Sounds like someone got paid off or received some sort of compensation, under the table, to make that decision, at the rest of Kingwood's expense.

andreweggplant --- 7 years ago -

The COH has really nothing to do with it. It was all basically a decision or decisions made by the Kingwood Civic Club, whoever they are.

Big disappointment this year... The quality of the parade seemed diminished, the vendors etc in Town Center are poor and expensive and no Fireworks...Kind of a sad statement for our community

AMDG --- 7 years ago -

just to be correct, the $75 was for a sit down dinner - to watch the fireworks and a buffet dinner, kid rides and music was.

$25 members, $30 non - members - $13 kids - free under 4

Who pays for the firework demonstration?I still think that City Councilman, Dave Martin still needs to hear about this: David.P.Martin@marsh.com

Lurker --- 7 years ago -

What would Dave Martin do about this if the City of Houston was not a participant in the firework display?

Do you call him when you have a problem at Wal Mart, too?

Karras --- 7 years ago -

$25 members, $30 non - members - $13 kids - free under 4

Non-member can't go on their own. They have to be a guest of a member. So the fireworks will never be open to the public.

yes - just correcting the $75 number folks were using.

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

The 4th became a privileged affair. So not patriotic!

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

I hope this isn't true... So disappointing.

Dorothy Parker --- 7 years ago -

There are many other fireworks displays to choose from around us, we'll go somewhere else next year. On the bright side, this was a free (non) display. You didn't pay for the disappointment.

SineadORebellion --- 7 years ago -

And this was exactly why I posted this on July 1st. My husband, who knows the club layout well, said there was no way town center would be able to see them. He was right. We went to the high school and parked all the way in the back right hand corner (closest to the T-buildings/Field House entrance. We were barely able to see them but we thankfully saw more than most.
Look, I get the people who say "It was free. Its just fireworks. Stop complaining" BUT had they just informed the public of the change, we all could have made the decision to go with the possibility of not seeing anything. That's all it would have taken; communication. Now people feel like they were deceived or lied to. And that's why people are angry. YES, it's just fireworks but a lot of people spent the day waiting for those ADVERTISED fireworks to only find out they were moved and we weren't told. If they don't want to do them, that's fine! Just let the public know so we can make other arrangements. So we can choose to go downtown, or to The Woodlands or Kings Harbor a few nights ago. Inform us! That's why we're pissed.
I personally won't attend again. I'll do kings harbor or Woodlands. That's my choice.

JustWatching --- 7 years ago -

The biggest problem is see is that people weren't warned or told where the fireworks displays were going to be. Fireworks displays are not an entitlement or a right. There were plenty of other places to see free fireworks displays. It seems to me the people paying for the fireworks can decide where to set them off. Next time I would suggest a little planning before assuming anything.

Karras --- 7 years ago -

It's tough to plan with inaccurate information.

JustWatching --- 7 years ago -

That's true but there were other places to go...Houston, The Woodlands, Katy..etc. Everyone assumed certain things that weren't true. You do know what assuming does?
