Saw my HS classmate is hunkering down at his father in laws house while on a visit . Awful what they are going through. They are less than a mile to where it is all happening.

Wicked --- 10 years ago -

the police are out of control. They murder people every day and get away with it. I don't like riots but sometimes, it is the only way to get the attention that is needed.

needsleep --- 10 years ago -

It is never justified. Homes are being broken into. How does terrorizing each other (your neighbors) make anything better? My friend has his wife and 13 yr old step son locked down in the basement because they have looted the store around the corner. This is awful.

Wicked --- 10 years ago -

It does not make it better but it gets the attention that is greatly needed. People are angry. What they are looting and destroying is just stuff. These cops took a life. You just cannot put a price on that. If they take one, it is a license to take another. It has to stop. If property must be destroyed to get that point across, then so be it. It is no different that dropping a bomb on another country to get their attention.

ontheroad678 --- 10 years ago -

This makes perfect sense. Steal, destroy and set businesses on fire that are owned by companies and people that had NOTHING to do with the police or this situation.

It is not the only way to get attention. The people that did this (Stealing and destroying) are thugs taking advantage of a situation.....Nothing else.

You hold the city counsel, mayor, police chief and anyone else in the political arena accountable and keep the pressure on them until changes can be made.....Not stealing shoes.

needsleep --- 10 years ago -

They are breaking into homes where people reside not just stores. The looters do not care about the people who have the stuff they want. The people in the crossfire didn't know this would happen. Otherwise they would have left their stuff behind and went to where they would be safe. Not in fear for their lives locked in a basement.

Mayberry --- 10 years ago -

Seriously? You can not possibly support riots - that's absurd!!

Wicked --- 10 years ago -

Like I said, I don't agree with the rioting, but they are making a statement. Maybe what they need to do is burn down the policemans homes, and the police station. I think killing an innocent person is absurd too.

Ender --- 10 years ago -

It does not make it better but it gets the attention that is greatly needed

HAHAHA

Lets rob and pillage our local businesses, that's how you show the world that the cops are unnecessarily aggressive in our area.

Wicked --- 10 years ago -

Are the cops unnecessarily aggressive in our area?

B12Fan --- 10 years ago -

but they are making a statement.
They sure are. The statement is loud and clear.

I loot because I'm too mad and stupid to know how to bring any change to this world.

Wicked --- 10 years ago -

I suppose that many of these looters don't have a lot. Most likely not educated, poor, bad neighborhoods, drugs, parents not home, hungry. What else do they have to do? Whole situation is sad.

Mayberry --- 10 years ago -

Interesting comeback Wick. So you have issues with men and women that protect us against those that elect not to follow the law. Is it all people that protect us or just authority in general that is most difficult for you?

Actions (like those above) have consequences..,

It is I WhyWhyWhy --- 10 years ago -

The people breaking into places and looting need to be shot dead as well. Tired of criminals.

Ender --- 10 years ago -

No..

Don't you know that they are just expressing themselves? It's not their fault

FabFive --- 10 years ago -

Tired of criminals here too. That's ridiculous. He can't even run out of that store without tripping on his own pants.

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

Wicked, your name is apt. How can you possibly be so morally confused as to think that rioting and looting against people who have nothing whatsoever to do with the situation is "making a statement"?

Ender --- 10 years ago -

"In a news conference Sunday morning, Belmar, the county police chief, said the Ferguson officer had an encounter with two ?individuals? about noon Saturday and that Brown pushed the officer back into his car and ?assaulted? him in the vehicle.

Belmar said one shot was fired by the officer?s gun inside the car during the struggle, hitting no one, and that the officer then fired multiple times as Brown ran away. Brown fell dead in the street. Belmar said the crime scene covered a distance of just 35 feet."

How can these people defend this and call it murder?

I cant wait for the video to be released

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

Ender, we live in a time that excuses criminals as being the "victim" of some type of oppression. Instead of holding people accountable for their own wickedness, we blame someone else or "society" for "oppressing" them. This invariably leads to blaming good for evil, and calling evil "good."

whatchamacallit --- 10 years ago -

Any excuse to steal or tear something up that doesn't belong to them.

Why is it justifiable to hurt others, steal and vandalize because someone was killed in the commision of a crime? I don't care if he was running away after, he deserved what he got.

Hard to imagine it but we have this same type of logic being used in our government.

Never let a good crisis go to waste.

AMDG --- 10 years ago -

I think we can have empathy and sympathy for people who do bad things, especially if there are real and legitimate circumstances that mitigate it. That said, they can never be an excuse. There is no excuse for this kind of violence and theft.

Oregonian --- 10 years ago -

I lived in LA during the Watts riots. This is the same thing, isn't it?
Why does the news always show people of color commiting these crimes? Because they are doing it.

These guys makes these folks who riot look like amateurs, they took billions and billions, ruined thousands of lives and never had to break a pane of glass.

Like I said, I don't agree with the rioting, but they are making a statement.

The people looting are not making a statement. They're taking advantage of a sad situation for their own personal gain.

Holding a march, picketing, etc. that's one thing, but looting, stealing, terrorizing people, that's another. They are only hurting their "cause" and adding to the environment that causes incidents like the one that started this to happen.

kingwood resident --- 10 years ago -

These thugs will take advantage of any situation to get whatever they want. Their behavior has nothing to do with the victim, I really believe they could care less. It is sickening to see them run wild destroying everything in their path. Law enforcement needs to take action and stop it now.

Leila --- 10 years ago -

Like I said, I don't agree with the rioting, but they are making a statement.

Usually the "cause" becomes lost and greed becomes the motivator hiding under an excuse. They lose support and compassion when they resort to criminal behavior themselves. People start participating that have no real connection but just see an excuse to loot. Mob mentality takes over.

Ender --- 10 years ago -

What really cracks me up is when people want to complain that businesses do not want to set up shop in these "urban" areas

Ender --- 10 years ago -

"Food desert? What?s a food desert?

As part of Lets Move!, the campaign to end childhood obesity, First Lady Michelle Obama is taking on food deserts. These are nutritional wastelands that exist across America in both urban and rural communities where parents and children simply do not have access to a supermarket. Some 23.5 million Americans ? including 6.5 million children ? currently live in food deserts. Watch the video below and learn what the First Lady is doing to help families in these areas across the country."

Business will build/open where they have a reasonable chance of making a profit and being able to conduct business with the least amount of trouble, like robberies, shop lifting and employee theft. Look at Kmart! They have closed many stores in neighborhoods like these for those very reasons.

Why should they take the risk if they don't have to? Is it a coincidence that these "food deserts" (STUPID TERM) exist in the neighborhoods/areas that they do? NO!

Next, we will have government owned supermarkets in these crime ridden areas. Once again, another burden, at the taxpayers expense!

I think that is all 100% correct. Even though there is good reason, the fact remains it does make it hard on the vast majority of good law abiding people who live in these areas.

Ender --- 10 years ago -

Even though there is good reason, the fact remains it does make it hard on the vast majority of good law abiding people who live in these areas.

That is why most good people have moved out of that area long ago. It is a vicious, self-destructive cycle that seems to have no end.

Productive good people move away and take their wealth with them. Then the lack of tax dollars further accelerates the downfall of said area.

These people are their own worst enemy

I think that most of decent people have already moved out of these places or been killed.

AMDG --- 10 years ago -

Ender/whatchamacallit - sorry, there are very good poor people, who live in very bad areas.

I agree, but I do not think that means that taxpayers should have to foot the bill to get them "healthier" food choices.

We are free to live wherever we want (that we can afford), food availability factors into that decision.
